Activities
The SNCO “Republican Veterinary-Sanitary and Phytosanitary Laboratory Services Center”, under Food Safety Inspection Body of the Republic of Armenia, implements a number of activities financed from the state budget:
- Ensuring the safety and improving the quality of food products placed on the market (laboratory examination of samples by an accredited laboratory). It is planned to conduct laboratory examinations of 1,665 food samples.
- Conducting laboratory testing of samples collected from farm animals (mainly cattle and small ruminants), as well as samples of raw materials and materials of animal origin. It is planned to conduct 995,000 laboratory tests of blood samples collected from farm animals, as well as samples from other animals and raw materials and materials of animal origin, including microbiological, chemical-toxicological and serological testing and pathological-anatomical examinations.
- Laboratory serological testing for Peste des petits ruminants (PPR). It is planned to conduct serological testing of 4,277 blood samples collected from small ruminants for PPR.
- Laboratory testing to determine the effectiveness of post-vaccination immunity against foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) in animals. It is planned to conduct laboratory testing of 2,325 blood samples from cattle and 2,075 blood samples from small ruminants, for a total of 4,400 samples.
- Establishing control over quarantine organisms and plant diseases, pests, and the adverse effects of pesticides on both plants and human health. It is planned to conduct laboratory testing of plant and crop samples for the detection of particularly dangerous harmful organisms and latent infections, as well as 6,500 laboratory tests of pesticides placed on the market at points of sale in the Republic of Armenia for the determination of their active substances.
- Detection of levels of residues in fish, honey and milk through laboratory testing, thereby determining the safety and quality level of these products. Within the framework of monitoring conducted for the laboratory control of residues and genetically modified organisms in milk, it is planned to conduct 1,200 laboratory tests on 300 milk samples; for 130 honey samples, 863 laboratory tests for the control of residues are planned; and for 150 fish samples, 792 laboratory tests for the control of residues are planned.
